DO:
- Call a Water Damaged Firm- Damage from water occurs
rapidly and sometimes the difference between restoration and replacement can
be the quick action of a professional.
- Ensure the water source and electricity are turned off
in the affected areas. So not use electrical appliances in areas where water
is standing.
- Remove as much water as possible by wiping, mopping,
or sweeping out of the affected area. Do not use common household
vacuums to remove water.
- Remove any floor rugs, lift draperies, use pins to
lift furniture skirts, place saucers or aluminum foil under furniture legs.
- Remove any books, photos, pictures, fabrics, potted
plants, paperwork, etc that may be affected by high humidity, from the
affected area.
- If possible, use fans to circulate air and begin the
dry out process.
- Stay out of rooms where wet ceilings are sagging or
may have retained water.
- Do ask for documentation that your house is dry from
the water mitigation firm.
DO NOT:
- Don't use electrical items that may result in
electrical shock or equipment damage.
- Don't walk in areas that have standing water if the
electricity is on.
- Don't walk on wet carpet any more than necessary to
avoid spreading damage.
- Don't throw items away before a Specialist determined
whether an item can be restored.
- Don't assume an affected area is dry without the use
of moisture meters.
